The weekend after the classic a chill trip sounded fun. The logistics of this trip are not complicated, but I wanted to share since it’s a great injured or have fun trip. We parked at the take out around mile 212 on the Richardson Highway. We began hitch hiking and people actually parked right next to us to car shuttle to a different put in within 5 minutes. Quite the score for saving time and gas emissions. They dropped us at Tangle Lakes lodge and we inflated our boats to cross the lake. We saw some moose and crossed the lakes in a few hours. The current picked up and we enjoyed class I for 1-2miles. We pulled out on the right hand side where a sign and dirt outcrop were. I had decided to bring 3x as much as I brought on the classic, so pretty much everything I could possibly need.
At first we followed a trail that ended in a swamp lake, I believe with canoes people hop back in here. We back tracked to see the falls a bit and bush whacked over a knob, and then dropped down to the other side. We decided to make camp here, eating down by the water and camping up above. The next morning the water started out as class 2 and ended as class I/2 with braids. Overall it was very pretty, although could be shallow with less water. There are options to hike into the river from different areas if you want to include some walking.
