Paulson Bay Cabin and Shrode Cabin Ski (Prince William Sound)

4 days

We did this trip over a Friday-Monday. On Friday we boated out with calm seas and cloudy skis but some on and off precip. We got to the cabin mid-day and mostly sledded behind the cabin. We had skied above Whittier earlier that day, and the snow was decent but pretty heavy so we weren't jazzing to get out fast. We cooked food, played card games, and sledded during the evening. The cabin has two bottom double bunks and two top single bunks. The six of us fit with ability to hang gear, but on a longer trip or with more people it would have been more crammed. For this trip we took nicer food and msc stuff, because we were able to get dropped off right at the cabin. Last year when we went to Shrode, we had to hike in three miles.

The next morning we set out in the snow, which quickly turned to rain. We got pretty wet but PWS terrain with the trees, holes, pillows, and amount of snow was fun to explore. Pretty special to explore this terrain, since it seems like it would be really hard to get far in the summer. We had started towards hikers left towards a ridge. With better weather, it would be interesting to see if you could continue this ridge back to Tebenkof Glacier. We did two runs out and about and then returned to the cabin pretty soaked.

The next day we walked around the beach, eat food and played cards. It's rare that we wouldn't ski, but it was raining pretty hard. The third day we did venture out, and the snow was the heaviest I've ever skied. You could see the water lines running down the snow pack. When we got picked up we had to wade out to the boat, so the crocs came in handy. Overall made the best of some marginal weather :)
