Scandinavian Hut, Hike Out Matanuska Glacier, Raft Matanuska River

3 days Mark agreed to drop us off Friday at the hut with the heli after work around 7:30p which was very nice of him. And he only charges $375 per load of 3 in the R44 which is cheap and makes it a reasonably affordable trip for involving transport. We had Car 1 drop three people with Mark, go to Caribou Campground to pick up up two more for the second heli load and leave a car. We got to the Scandy hut, made some dinner, and went to bed. I had only been to the hut in the winter. Turns out where you find the water in the summer is a stream below the hut, or on our way out within a mile or two there was a good water supply. East Susitna River Packraft

3 days Sara, Kelly, Jamie, and I drove up early Saturday morning through Cantwell and onto the Denali Highway. We pulled up to where Valdez Creek road intersects, and stashed two bikes here and the pull-out. We drove up Valdez Creek road about 10 miles until the creeks got too high to cross in the truck. Then we set off hiking along the road. In general we following Valdez Creek up, loosing the road a couple of times. It went surprisingly high up, maybe 6-7 miles. We contoured left towards a beautiful lake on tundra, and then over a pass. We went down a little and then back up towards a second pass. Here there was a great flat tundra bench near water, so we camped around 11-12 miles in. The next day was a good day to try and make a straight line navigating. Southern Wrangells: Tebay Lakes to Bremner to Tana to Chitina

10 days (11 days with driving) The theme of this write up is: it's cool to see water be so small and then see where it gets so big later. Thursday evening June 26th Sebastian, Charlotte, Helen and I drove towards McCarthy and camped, then caught a flight with Wrangell Air to Tebay Lakes Friday morning. From the air strip we walked right and stayed low and around for a bit to avoid some up and down drainages. Some years the landing strips might not be open this early, but this winter was a low snow year. The year prior I had called Wrangell Air when debating our Donjek trip versus this, and the landing areas were not quite open. We worked our way uphill and I was very hot. The day from here was a sidehill, with beautiful mountains for views on the other side.
